Practice

Charles appears in Crown Courts across the South-East. He has been instructed in wide range of matters from kidnap to drug importation to violent disorders at football matches. Recently he has successfully defended in a two-handed s.18 trial and a possession of firearms trial.

Charles has appeared in the Court of Appeal. In December 2006 he appeared for the prosecution in the case of Nelson [2006] EWCA Crim 3412, [2007] Crim LR 709. His article on this case was published in April 2007’s edition of Archbold News. Charles has also written an article on the sentencing of cases involving false identity documents. This article is due to be published in the Current Topic section of the Criminal Law Review later this year.

As regards employment work, Charles has been recently instructed in cases involving age and sexual discrimination. Charles is an active member of the Bar Pro Bono Unit for whom he undertakes employment cases. For several years Charles was also an employment law advisor at the Islington Law Centre.

Charles is a keen (but not necessarily good) tennis player. He also enjoys rock climbing, rugby union and any sports that Ireland are doing well at.
