Practice

Family

Anika regularly appears in the Family Division of the High Court on applications ranging from injunctions preventing the disposition of assets in ancillary relief cases to fully contested divorces. She has also lectured for chambers on issues relevant to matrimonial assets.

Anika has a wide knowledge of  injunctions (both with and without notice) ranging from international freezing orders and orders under s.37 of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973, to occupation and non-molestation orders under the Family Law Act 1996. She can also assist with cases concerning injunctive relief under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.

Anika also acts throughout all stages of ancillary relief proceedings, from the first appointment and FDR to final hearings. She also has experience in applications under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996.

In addition to representing parents in cases under the Children Act 1989 (both private and public law), Anika has built a reputation in appearing on behalf of fathers who have been the main carers or who are seeking residence orders. She as also acted on behalf guardians and extended family members such as grandparents in public law care cases.

Immigration

Anika has extensive experience in representing individuals in immigration appeals. She acts and advises in cases which involve appeals under the Points Based System, entry clearance, human rights and asylum. In particular Anika's expertise includes:

• Appeals in respect of decisions of the Immigration and Asylum Chamber (both First-Tier and Upper Tribunals).
• Reconsideration Appeals
• Claims for judicial review to the Administrative Court.

Civil Litigation

Anika regularly appears in the county courts and has conducted trials (in both the fast track and multi-track) in relation to consumer credit and contractual disputes.

Public Law & Judicial Review

Anika has experience of appeals under s.204 of the Housing Act 1996 and has undertaken work on judicial reviews in both family and immigration matters.

Cases

M v K (2009)
Represented the Defendant in complex and highly contentious proceedings for the division of assets following the dissolution of a 15-year relationship between an unmarried couple.

Re  D (2008)
Represented the Second Respondent father in care proceedings.

Re R-L (2007)
Represented the father in care proceedings complicated by both parents’ severe disabilities. Special Guardianship applications brought by extended family members.

First Global Locums Limited and Others v Cosias [2004] EWHC 2831 (QB)
Represented the defendant, an ex employee, in relation to allegations of  issues of restraint of trade, covenants against disclosure and alleged harassment.  

 

Profile

Anika was called to the Bar in 2002 by the Honourable Society of Gray's Inn.  Prior to joining chambers, Anika gained considerable understanding of confiscation proceedings in criminal cases following a period of secondment to the Asset Forfeiture Division of the Revenue and Customs Prosecuting Office where she worked on the Chambers Review into confiscation orders made in tobacco importation cases since 2001  (following R v Chambers [2008] EWCA Crim 2467).
