Monwara Shah (2004)Monwara Shah joined chambers in 2007 following the successful completion of her pupillage here.
Monwara has a predominately criminal defence based practice. She undertakes work in the Youth, Magistrates and Crown Court and regularly receives instructions on cases involving serious violence, public order, fraud and drug cases. She has acted privately for a number of defendants in Road Traffic prosecutions in the Magistrates Court and in representing defendants under the Proceeds of Crime legislation. She has particular experience in defending clients in social security fraud cases.
In addition to her criminal defence work, she accepts instructions in many areas of chambers practice. Her civil practice has included advising and acting for claimants and defendants in road traffic and credit hire claims, applications under the CPR, Fast Track trials, infant settlement and approval hearings and possession hearings.
Prior to coming to the Bar, she worked for a number of advice agencies in the private and public sector providing free access to legal services to in and around the Manchester area. She also undertook work placements in a number of solicitors firms and for the Civil Service.
Monwara enjoys reading, film, food, music and supporting Liverpool FC.
